Shantipeeth was founded at Udaipur, Rajasthan, India in 1984 by Anant Ganesh Trivedi under the benevolent patronage of the late physicist-educationist Prof. D.S. Kothari. Dr Kothari was one of India’s most celebrated scientists and the author of Nuclear Explosions and their Effects, the world’s first scientific report on the nuclear devastation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A renowned Vedanta scholar and former Indian Union Minister, Dr. Karan Singh, is a patron of Shantipeeth .
Born in 1955 in Udaipur (Rajasthan), India, Anant Ganesh Trivedi drew inspiration from the late Prof. D.S. Kothari, a renowned educationist and astrophysicist of India, to found Shantipeeth in 1984. Trivedi has a Master's in English Literature from Udaipur University (now, Mohanlal Sukhadia University), but his humanitarian and spiritual inclinations motivated him to commit himself to the cause of peace, conservation of the environment, and education of the youth. Working with a deep faith in the complementarity between science and human values and in the Upanishadic wisdom and its relevance to modern times, Trivedi has for the last thirty years been the prime driving force behind all activities and achievements of Shantipeeth.
