Shantipeeth was established on Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans Jayanti in 1984. Shri Ramkrishna tried various ways to reach the ultimate reality – the truth. Shri Ramkrishna Paramhans devoted his whole life of spiritual practice to discovering and reiterating the truth that the ultimate goal of self realisation/God realisation can be reached by spiritual practice as enunciated by any one of the religions known to humankind. Thus he established the fact that disharmony or conflict was utterly uncalled for. The principles propounded by him demolished the very basis of religious conflicts and established the need for harmony and brotherhood among men and women of all faiths.

Shantipeeth has been deeply inspired by the life and teachings of Shri Ramkrishna. In this regard Shantipeeth has organised a number of conferences, dialogues, meetings, 'satsangs' in various towns and villages to make people aware of the reality illumined by true knowledge. Thus Shantipeeth’s bid for spiritual awakening and communal harmony is a significant contribution to strengthening of ' Unity in Diversity ' in our country, a unique characteristic of Indian culture
