Most parts of the forests in the region had turned barren and many species of fauna & flora were either extinct or threatened. Shantipeeth started a movement to regenerate faith in the environment & cultural heritage and to restore the pristine glory of sacred groves. People came forward to join this movement of restoration work of sacred groves in the tribal areas by swearing to replenish the disappearing bio-diversity.
People vowed not to cut trees from sacred jungles and to re-establish the sanctity of traditional water harvesting systems and water bodies like lakes, step wells (baories). Shantipeeth’s efforts for sapling plantation drive especially in the countryside proved rewarding. Through many such initiatives, Shantipeeth has persistently worked for environmental conservation and regeneration of cultural practices. The movement is still going on with the blessings of all peace loving public personalities and common people. Shantipeeth has played an active role in awareness building for the greening movement of the Aravalli hills.
