Shantipeeth has been zealously striving to create awareness for peace and nuclear disarmament especially among the youth since its inception. The organisation has endeavored to educate the youth for peaceful co-existence, world fraternity, human rights and a sense of development as enlightened and responsible citizens since 1986. More than a million young people particularly school children have participated in various conferences, training camps, workshops, field visits and rallies organised under the auspices of Shantipeeth over the last thirty years.
Over the years, the youth have tried to learn public participation in the mission to maintain world peace while understanding UN's role and its initiatives in sustainable development, environment and heritage conservation, harmony and conflict resolutions across the world. They have become aware that perhaps the gravest danger is that of a nuclear war. The stockpile of nuclear weapons is equivalent to more than a million Hiroshima bombs with a total explosive power of about 20,000 megatons of TNT – more than enough to annihilate human civilisation many times over. The stockpile is still increasing in quantity and quality. The youth have appealed to the Government of India, the USA, Russia and the other countries and the UN to augment their efforts for Nuclear Disarmament.
In the wake of any international conflict and corollary events, Shantipeeth has taken initiative to gather the power of public opinion and emphatically communicated its well considered and widely supported views to various organisations and agencies including the UNO.
Shantipeeth organised awareness 'Yatras' against terrorism from Udaipur to Sabarmati in 2006 and from Udaipur to Raj Ghat, New Delhi in 2008. It has spread the mission of peace in India and abroad.
As an important part of the mission, the organisation has developed a platform where the youth have the opportunity to interact with eminent personalities especially scientists to explore new dimensions of scientific advancement for human welfare and peace. Scientists like Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Prof. M. G. K. Menon, Dr. U. R. Rao, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, Shri M. Natrajan, Dr.K. Radhakrisnan, Shri A.Kiran Kumar and others have visited the Shantipeeth to ignite the young minds.
